Drilling the Wells

Drilling through the Mud

The first step is drilling through the mud (dirt, clay, etc.). In some cases the entire job involves mud drilling. This can be rather messy. In our location they expected to hit rock fairly soon (at about 20 feet).

Mud Bit:

Bit for drilling through mud

Once they have drilled through the mud it is necessary to put in a PVC sleeve to keep the well from collapsing. The sleeves are put in down to the depth of the rock.

PVC Shield

Note that the amount of mud drilling really depends on the site location. Some places can be all mud drilling. Ours turned out to be mostly rock.

Let the drilling begin!
