Geothermal Well Drilling

The Sounds of Drilling

Drilling is a loud activity. The rig's engine is constantly going and there's the occasional hiss of air compressors. The drill itself didn't seem to make much noise once it was in the ground. Overall, the noise wasn't too bad in the house—Sparky (our cat) even came up from her basement hiding place to investigate.

All of the guys on the drilling team wore earplugs or hearing protection the whole time. They also asked me to protect my ears while I was in the yard taking photos. In the house or away from the rig it wasn't a problem.
