Matter & Mixtures: Solutions, Colloids, and Suspensions (1 of 4)

Next page next page

Three common types of mixtures are Solutions, Suspensions, and Colloids.

The size of the particle determines whether it will scatter light (the Tyndall Effect).

Bigger particles scatter more light. They may also settle to the bottom of the container.

Particles can mean individual atoms, ions, or molecules (as in solutions). It can also mean clumps of atoms or molecules (as in colloids and suspensions).
